Wedding Invitations Style: There Are Better Ways to Save Money ...
Considering making your own invitations? If you're doing so to make them more personalized and unique -- or, if you're an artist or designer by trade -- the results can be just what you hope for.
If you're hoping to save money, though, there really are better ways.
Making invitations yourself is often an exercise in frustration. Finding the right paper, getting your printer to print them properly (or finding an affordable commercial printer) takes time. If you will only save $50 or $100 or less, is it really worth 10 hours of your time? What's more, because of waste, paper and printing are usually more costly than planned. Worst of all, the results often look homemade -- and, brides and grooms who decide to do their own invitations often regret it.
There are many better ways to save money! Some ideas:
* Check out last year's designs. Most invitations companies have sale items -- at great prices -- all the time. One of our favorites is eInvite -- their beautiful, chic invitations and stationery designs are updated all the time, and that means older designs can be had at a better price. Shop online here:

* Look for online sales. Many web sites offer standard discounts on invitations and other bridal gear of 10%, 20% or more. What's more, virtually all sites offer free samples -- so you don't take big risks by ordering online. (Instead you get the convenience of shopping and ordering any time you want!)
Two of our favorites:
Wedding Yellow Shop (save 10% on great invitations, accessories, gifts and other wedding gear from Cathy's Concepts)
Carlson Craft at Invitations Whenever (save 20% on all Carlson Craft invitations, programs, save-the-dates, favors, accessories and more!)
* Save money elsewhere. Rather than skimping on invitations -- which provide the first impression of your wedding -- consider saving money elsewhere. Favors, for example, often go entirely unnoticed by guests, yet often cost more per piece than the highest end invitations.
* Go partly do-it-yourself. If you're committed to saving money on invitations by contributing your own labor, consider the print-at-home invitations lines offered by the better stationers, such as eInvite.
