Wedding Invitations Style Term-of-the-Day: Double Envelope
Have you seen the term "double envelope" on invitations web sites or in magazines? Wondering what it means?
Double envelopes are a formal style detail for wedding invitations. In a double-envelope invitation, the outer envelope is larger and includes the full address (with return address on the back). Inside, a somewhat smaller envelope contains the actual invitation. Usually, only the guest(s)' name is printed on this inner envelope -- often in beautiful calligraphy.
Inside the inner envelope there is also usually a third, much smaller envelope -- the pre-addressed, pre-stamped RSVP envelope. Don't forget to verify the postage -- smaller envelopes may carry an extra charge if they're outside USPS size limits!
